We humans have plenty of stores designed for us. Shouldn't dogs and cats have a store specially for them?
That's the thinking behind PJ's Paws and Claws, which opened in 2001 as a boutique-style retail store and expanded in 2004 with a state-of-the-art grooming salon. Patti, the P of PJ's, envisioned a place to celebrate, reward and care for dogs and cats -- an ounce of payback for the unconditional love and companionship they give us each and every day.
Patti has lived in Seattle for a quarter-century. She built a highly successful career in merchandising and marketing, working for Northwest companies like Starbucks and Eddie Bauer. But Patti's passion always has been her pets, so she risked it all and followed her dream. The beneficiaries have been dogs, cats and the people who love them. Patti's eye for fun, unique and quality merchandise -- and her insistence on professional customer service -- has quickly elevated PJ's into a destination spot in the Seattle shopping scene.
In the first year, PJ's grooming salon earned a reputation as Seattle's finest. PJ's groomers are dedicated to having dogs -- and their owners -- leave happy.
Continuing its commitment to putting the customer first, PJ's relaunched a new-and-improved online store that makes shopping over the Internet both a pleasant and reliable experience.

Dogs and cats are always welcome inside PJ's retail store. For those dogs who would rather enjoy the fresh air while their owner shops, be assured that they will stay safe and secure tied to one of the bone-shaped canine hitching posts outside the front door.
It's no wonder that dogs and cats love PJ's just as much as their owners do!
Just ask Jelly, one of the J's that makes up PJ's. That is, if you can coax her off the overhead catwalk where she presides over the store and welcomes customers.
Oh, and the other J in PJ's? That would be Jif, Patti's other feline family member. Sweet Jif passed away in February of 2011. He was a special boy and will always be in our hearts.
One last thing: PJ's is committed to the community that it serves. PJ's helps raise money for the Seattle Animal Shelter's Help the Animals Fund by taking part in the annual pet parade and costume contest, as well as the Furry 5K. In addition, the store donates 5% of its profits to animal rescue and adoption agencies in King County.
PJ's will continue to evolve to meet ever-changing customer needs. But its mission will remain the same:
